Dry needling is a way to remove trigger points. Trigger points are the painful “knots” you feel in your muscles. Trigger points are a good thing in a poor functioning system. It is a safety mechanism that your brain uses to limit range of motion when muscles in the area are not stabilizing like they should.

Although dry needling physical therapy does not fix your problems, it can be used as a nice adjunctive to normalize tone and decrease pain. Remember, the brain is in control of firing the muscles around the body, so it must be the goal to change the way the brain chooses to use these muscles. Trigger points will continue to come back unless the movement strategy is fixed.
